Michigan State University's
Social Norms Program Model

This site is intended as a resource for Communication Campaign and Health Education researchers and practitioners. You can get a copy of the information contained at site in a single .pdf for download and printing on the Resources & Downloads page. Michigan State University was awarded a model program grant by the US Department of Education to disseminate and extend their social norms based health programs. We believe our program was selected as a model for three key reasons:

• Inter-Disciplinary Focus. Health Communication Researchers, Health Education Practitioners, and Survey Design Methodologists sharing knowledge and experience. Read about the team members, and the history of the team to learn more.
• Research. Probing and expanding the social norms marketing approach to encourage safe college alcohol use. Asking questions and applying theory to increase effectiveness or determine underlying processes
• Effectiveness. MSU’s program has shown a reduction in alcohol consumption norms. Read an overview of the social norms approach, the social norms process overview, or the specific history of MSU’s social norms process to learn more.
